I am a Junior Research Fellow in Renaissance and Baroque Architectural History at Worcester College. My research focuses on architecture, science, and environment in early modern Britain and its empire, and I am especially interested in the role of the built environment in the formation of the British Empire. My current book project, provisionally titled Empire Fortified, investigates how the construction of colonial fortifications remade both landscapes and imperial practices in seventeenth-century England. At Oxford, I am also working on a second book project, which considers how climatic crises unfolding across the early modern English empire—from hurricanes and earthquakes to fires and disease—produced new architectural and urban forms in England as well as its colonies.
